Best used with a S/S/H pickup set, like EMG's (SL-20) or even the OLP Luke guitar. I have as well the OLP Luke and a MM4 with the EMG's SLV/SLV/85. Recording was made with the OLP Luke into an AD30VT with the lineout into a Tascam DP-01/FX
This resembles in my humble opinion a bit of Luke's sound in the 90's era. Think of CAE 3+SE, Soldano SLO or Rivera. By looking at pics of Luke's gear I took the settings of the second channel of his CAE 3SE preamp to start tweaking. The demo mp3 is based on the original song and/or Toto's live version (fatter sound). Volume is variable up to taste, don't overthrow too much gain to keep the sound wide open. I adjusted the noise gate first, throw in the factory default chorus+reverb or rotary+reverb and adjust to taste.
Lukather (November 2001): "I EQ my amps with the mids pulled down a bit, a little + for highs, and a little + for lows. That's the simplest way to put it."
