Vox tonelab EX !

Postby Johnny-English » 19 Oct 2011, 08:53

Hi,
Well I have had a Vox Tonelab EX as a special birthday present and at the moment I’m totally baffled by it .Has anyone on the site got one and could give me some tips or a bit of a walk through.

I have a Vox AD 30 and that is so easy to set up, but my main go to Amp is my Vox AC4tvh and matching 1 x 12 cab and that is the Amp I will use the EX with, Just to give you a bit of back ground I had a serious head injury that has left me for one thing having a big with the uptake of user instructions or in my case “destructions” :D
It also left me with some numbness in my left hand, but I have got used to that over time and now just love playing my guitar ............SO any tips will be much appreciated  :D

Hi & congrats on the TLEX.

Mostly, the unit is quite user-friendly and intuitive and a lot of features have been made more 'amp like'. But there is some less obvious stuff too. So, what exactly is baffling you & we'll try & help.

I have a TLST which is very similar (but will hopefully be getting my hands a TLEX to try out in the next few weeks) & I have read through the TLEX manual so I have some familiarity with these units.

Hi Voxman,
Thanks for getting back so quick, I think it’s me who is the problem not the Tonelab, Im trying to run before I can walk ,starting to get to know my way around it now and what a piece of kit this is.
Can’t believe how it responds to the pick and volume control on the guitar, just as you would expect off a good valve amp .Looking forward to when you get one and hope you will be doing a review of it .and of any good tips or settings to try out .
Cheers
John

Tonally the ST & EX are the same John, aside from the 2nd pedal section and (I think) the odd amp model difference. So I'm right with you re valve tone/picking response.

I'd like to upgrade to the EX simply because the ST really isn't suitable for serious gigging i.e. where you need quick patch changing and stomp box control. Even Vox admits that the ST was introduced only as a 'stop gap' after the the LE was discontinued, so that they still had a foot in the MFX market. The ST really should have been what the EX is from outset, but further development time was needed.
