I have one on loan at the moment. Great little amp & I like it very much. BUT the emphasis is on 'little' & the price IMHO is over the top. Regardless of its bells & whistles, volume output, & the great tones its capable of, it's still just a 1x12" combo utilising a small cab. New price is now £499 (reduced from £599) but IMHO this is still too much money. For that price I'd expect the 1x12" extn cab to be included - which it needs, not for volume but for fullness of tone.

The problem with any 1x12" amp (especially when the cab is small) is it sounds boxy. When I plug it in, I love the tones - but when I then plug in my AD120VTX next to it, the Pro just sounds boxy and way less full in sound by comparison. It's nothing to do with the Pro's design or quality, it's just the law of physics.

I think the Pro is great - definitely the best of the new Valvetronix breed, no question, & I'd like one myself. But Vox has got the pricing wrong although I suspect the R&D costs were a big factor and were just strangling Vox here. My view is that they should have brought out a 2x12" 300w combo version and/or offered the 1x12" combo plus 1x12" cab as a package for £649, with the combo at £599 - this would have been a better sales strategy as customers would feel they were getting better value - the 1x12" on its own just doesn't look much! Most potential customers, including me, would baulk at a 1x12" amp for £599 (or even £499) when you could buy an AC30 Black Comet for £599!

If Vox want to sell the one on Ebay, I'd suggest they put it in with a start bid at £300-325 maximum.

Rich - how much has the modelling improved? In other words has the R&D been worthwhile? They already had the Valvetronix technology and from what I can gather the FX section is not as comprehensive as the Blues, so has the money been spent wisely? Regarding the cost - I agree that its expensive. At the moment modelling amps are perceived as toys by some and inferior to all-valve amps by most. This is what stops people from buying at this price point. To put it in perpective Fenders new 1x12 22w Supersonic is about a grand

This amp was up for about £369 I think and didn't get a single bid. :?

Difficult to comment on whether the speakers, modeling, better components (not sure if this applies though) or EL84 is contributing most to the tone....too many variables.

Even £369 for a 1x12" amp is arguably a bit expensive. I had the Fender Mustang III on approval for several weeks & whilst the Pro is much better (more tubish), the MIII is still pretty good and only cost £200 - & the MIII has USB upgradeability, free edit & recording software, variable cabinet models and a bigger cabinet which sounds pretty full for a 1x12".

It's this type of competition Vox faces, particularly on an amp that is likely to devalue quickly ( - which is a relevant theme with all modeling amps of course). Buying an amp to use for a couple of years and then treating it as a throw-away with no/very little resale value when the new version comes out is arguably realistic for a £200 amp that has given a lot of fun. But at £5-600, resale is a much bigger consideration - the Pro is the latest V'x model yet an ex-demo model is on E-bay at £369 and hasn't yet attracted a single bid....if that's a reflection of market reaction now, this is indicative of an even more pronounced impact on resale values as time marches on.

And at that price I would expect a better than 12 month warranty. If you buy from DV247 in the UK you get 4 yrs! But it should be up to Vox & offer a better warranty. Even the cheaper MIII has a 2yr warranty in the UK & 5yrs in the US!!

Great amp, & I like it very much - just an unrealistic price & inadequate warranty for an expensive 1x12" modeling combo.

Price is unaltered. I might be proved wrong, but I still think they'll struggle to find a buyer at that price.

Relisted at £349! Plus £10 p+p  I think that starting bids at £300 would have been a little more realistic but at least the price dropping shows that the penny's dropping too. Free delivery may help a bit too.
