vintage wah problem

Postby msd » 06 Jul 2011, 21:25

I have an early 1970's Kent Wow/Growl pedal. It's basically an old wah pedal. Inside it is almost identical to any old 2 transistor wah pedal. It only has a 9volt battery clip, no power plug. Well, I grabbed the wrong adapter and plugged a 9.6 volt adapter into the battery clip instead of the 9volt one I usually use. Since then it has not worked. When switched off the sound comes out fine. Bypass ok. When switched on (with battery) the volume is very low and the sound is broken and static. You can still hear the sweep through the static, so that works. It sounds like a very low, nearly dead battery. I have tried several batteries all new from the packages and I have tested all the soldered connections, no shorts. Could it be one of the transistors? Or bad capacitor? Anyone have any ideas?

I removed the negative side of the 470 capacitor to try and see if it would work as a volume control. It did not. I resoldered the capacitor and now the wah works again. ??????? Bad connection ????? Works without problems now, lucky I guess.
