VC12 Question please

Postby Telegib » 16 Aug 2011, 17:24

Just picked up a VC12 pedalboard. I really like it. Much better than my VC4.

I have a AD120VTX.
Anyway, I've been using it for 3 weeks now with no issues. After my initial download of my own amp presets, ( I don't use the VC12 presets...yet), everything worked fine.

Yesterday, I turn on my amp and I see the Expression Pedal light is lit up on all of my programmed banks (4.1-4.4). The tone has changed and it's louder and more distorted than what I originally had programmed. If I step on the expression pedal and "turn off" that "expression" ( for lack of better terminology) the tone becomes much softer and clean. Niether sound is what I originally programmed in.

So...I re-programmed my custom sounds again and saved them into the banks I use. No expression pedal lights were lit and all seemed back to normal. The sound was fine. Everything went fine until I stepped on another program bank and then the expression pedal light came back on and the sound changed again...IOW, I'm going from 4.1 to 4.2...then back to 4.1.

What I noticed is when the expression pedal is lit, my "pedal" selection box lit up on the amp showing me that the Tube OD was in use, which is fine, because I have that programmed as part of the tone, but prior to yesterday, the expression pedal was never lit up and never changed tones as I stepped on the pedal.

I'm a typical guy who usually only reads directions and instructions if I have to !
This probably an easy fix and something simple that I have overlooed. Would appreciate any suggestions for help.
Thank you in advance.

The VC12 has 4 sets of presets. There are 3 factory and 1 blank when you first get it (unless used then someone will have probably programmed into the last bank already)

Anyhoo.. this is how it works.

The VC12 controls the amp. You are only able to access the presets on the amp. Consider the VC12 as a storage unit. You can only use 1 set of presets at a time.

Save your presets on your amp and you are set to go. You will also want to transfer your presets from the amp to the VC12 last bank. This is because if your amp gets reset to factory settings, your presets will be lost. If that happens, you transfer your bank from the VC12 to the amp and you are set to go.

If you want to use one of the other sets of presets off the VC12, you have to transfer that to the amp (what is on the amp will be lost if you do not have it saved on the VC12) in order to use them. Again, the VC12 only controls what is on the amp same as if you do not have the VC12 connected.

I like to think if it like CDs. One set of presets is a CD. The amp can only play from 1 CD. The VC12 can hold 4 CDs. In order to use one from the VC12, it must be loaded into the amp. The CD in the amp will be lost (unless it is already saved on the VC12) You can play any of the 4 CDs from the VC12 however you can only play from 1 at a time.

See understanding-the-vc12-floorcontroller-s-128-patch-memory-t155.html for an in-depth explanation as well as read the manual for the vc12 (download section or on Vox site)

Thanks Paragon. Much appreciated.

I understand how the unit works as far as holding memory banks.
Let me re-phrase the question.....I understand that the expression pedal controls the Wah, Univibe, etc.....but, Is it normal for the expression light on the VC12 to be lit up when the Tube OD pedal is selected as part of the "pre-set"....even though you can't control it from the VC12 ?

Maybe this is normal?.......when I press the expression pedal, the Tube OD effect dis-engages.

Thanks again.

Remember that on the amp you can disengage control of the Modulation effects by hitting the Ex Ctl button on the amp in the Mod section. This will allow you to use the Expression pedal to control the pedal selection and not mess with the mod speed.
