Using amp as a cabinet?

Postby sholley1 » 04 Jan 2012, 22:17

I am thinking of buying a VOX Lil Night Train amp head or some other low watt all tube amp and thought I would save some money by just using my AD30VT-XL as the cabinet instead of buying a cabinet with the amp.

I just put a new Celestion Vintage 30 12" speaker in it and the speaker has another set of terminals on it already so I thought I would just install another input jack into my amp and use it as the cabinet when playing through the Lil Night Train Head.

Will this work correctly?

No, you'll have the load of the VT30's output slaving the NT (could cause damage to both).

There is a way to to do this by using a switching jack and wiring the jack so it disconnects the VT30's amp from the speaker when the jack is used. I can show you how to do it, if you'd like.

Thank you for the response Retrobob. I would be very interested in you showing me how to set that up if you don't mind.
