Tyler Variax through VT20+

Postby deano » 21 Dec 2011, 19:36

So I bought my VT20+ in August, and the missus is going to let me buy a new guitar in the sales. I'm looking at a JTV-59, one of the new Tyler Variaxes, a modelling amp.

A few peope have suggested my amp isn't good enough for that guitar. I'm not looking for the hoy gral of tone,or "my tone", I just want to get a decent Tele through Twin sound, or reasonable Les Paul through Plexi sound. They have suggested the VT20+ will mask some of the character of the models in the guitar.

I think there is some "valve and nitro" snobbishness going on, so I thought I'd come to the Valvetronix experts.

I don't gig, and I like to fiddle around with different sounds rather than sticking to one. I find that as much fun as playing. I might play some Shadows stuff, followed by some ACDC, or try to learn a song from CD, and then play to jam tracks. Or I might just soend a night fiddling with different tones!

Anyone tried a modelling guitar through the Valvetronix amps, or got any comments supporting or otherwise?

Well, I guess it's up to me to tell you all, seeing as my JTV-59 - in Cherry Sunburst no less - arrived 60 minutes ago and I've only just put it down to do some work!

So far I've only used the magnetic pickups (James Tyler's own humbuckers) and I have to say that even through the VT20+ and not anything bigger I'm gobsmacked! It's bleedin' fantastic! Lovely sound through the Blackface, the JCM800 and AC30.

I shall let you know how it goes with the model's when the battery is charged and I can really get into it. Sitar through a Dual Rectifier anyone???
