Troubleshooting Tonelab (desktop model)

Postby jonnyj » 28 Oct 2008, 08:23

Greetings I am troubleshooting my Tonelab desktop model. It works like it should however recently when you turn the cabinet dial, and pedal dial they do not reflect their changes on the screen nor sonically. It usuallly occurs after it has been turned on for a while however it stays that way even after power off. I took the bottom off and looked around but never saw anything unusual. All parts are clean and tight. Later I discovered after putting cover back on that by tapping the bottom firmly the both dials would operate normal and stay that way for a while. I am searching for suggestions or ideas on what this may be? Loose part, wire? I don't think it's a software bug though. It's not a real big deal all the time it actually works fine when you use it under the software editor, so this might be an interesting problem.

Have you tried using compressed air to blow/clean out the troubled pots? That would be my next step. Otherwise there is something intermittent in either a small solder joint, which could be possible if 2 controls are affected with an identical issue. I read about this happening to a tube amp. The guy took it all apart, thought he'd found the culprit only for the identified part to be fine. He then re-soldered points in the path leading away from that control until the problem was no longer.
