If anyone's curious, I tried a Boss ME-50 and the only good thing I have to say about it is that it has a great form factor. If it sounded as good as my individual pedals then it would be killer. But it doesn't...not even close. I would guess the Tonelab would fall just as short.

Clean sounds were ok and the modulations were good but the distortions were harsh and buzzy. Just didn't sound organic. The delay was difficult to dial in compared to my DD-3.

So, not quite what I was looking for. After putting the ME-50 thru its paces I realized I don't need a bunch of useless stuff that comes with all these digital effects units, I just need the effects switching. So I'm done...I'll just ebay a few more select analog pedals to finish off my pedal board and eventually get a pedal switcher to create patches. That'll be a great little setup for my mini rig at home and would be perfect if I start playing out more like I want. Well thanks for posting.
