Tonelab ST + Night Train...

Postby DanielYahya » 08 May 2010, 13:19

Hi there, my name is Daniel.. I found this site from one of the Voxman's youtube videos. I already own a Night Train amp (with V112TV cab) and bought the Tonelab as my effects unit after hearing those videos. The problem is now, I am confused on how to actually use it with my amp. It seems a little noisy, and i don't even use the amp sim functions.

Can anybody help me to set this thing up?

Hi Daniel - The NT is a super amp but it's not the quietest kid on the block when cranked, so you might want to turn off the cab sims in your ST and play around with the noise reduction.

I tend to just use the TLST for reverb, delay, chorus and compressor with the Night Train, but I have used it with some of the ST amp & cab models too (classic models eg Plexi, but not really high gain ones) with no excessive noise problem.

It's likely you're picking up unwanted noise perhaps through your ring mains, exterior equipment (eg if you have your computer & screen on), lighting, or through your guitar (particularly if it has single coil p/ups)

Try your rig in a different location & see if there's any difference.

Thanks for the reply. The main reason I bought the ST was to use the reverb and the delay effects available on the unit. Nothing can replace the tone that I get with my NT, but then I find it hard to use those effects especially on the thick channel, with the gain cranked to 3 o'clock. Which output setting did you use on that video of yours? Your tone is superb in the video...

Glad you liked the vid. As you crank the NT gain in thick mode you have to lower the reverb/delay effects (as I had to do in the Led Zep riff). There's nothing you can do about that because the NT has no FX loop (which would be the best way to connect when using time based effects ie pre gain) and direct connection means you're connecting post gain.
