My son has been using the TLST for several months now plugging into a PA. However, the other day he broke a string and when I replaced it the sound of that string was completely different to the rest. I mean, the distortion effect was very muddy on the replaced string, but it was fine on the rest of the strings. The new string was also fine on clean settings.
I have since replaced the full set of strings with a couple of brands and now all the strings have the muddy sound on all the distorted settings regardless of which brand of strings I use. It is so bad it is not useable.
He also has the AD30VT and the sound through that is fine with the new strings on clean and distorted settings.
I seem to recall when he first got the guitar he had a similar issue and put the TLST aside for a month or two before trying it again. When we did go back to it we was very happy with the results and have been using it since.
Anyway, I spoke to a friend who doesn't know anything specific about the TLST, but suggested that the problem could be with the new strings in so far as the frequency they produce is at the top of the 'sine wave'? and that amp simulators like the TLST tend to cut a lot of the higher end of the wave. He then went on to say that as the strings 'age', the frequency lowers which allows more of the signal to be processed, therefore producing the clearer sound.
I don't know if this is true or not, but it does seem to explain my experience so far. Can anyone help or confirm if this could be the case. Thanks
