Tone Lab and the Vc-12 foot controller?

Postby retrobob » 31 Jan 2009, 16:53

Does anyone know if the programs from the Vc-12 foot control can be down loaded into the Tone Lab desk top model, and visa / versa? Has anyone done this? Are the tones comparable? I'm thinking this might be a great little back up in case an amp goes down at a gig, just plug it into the PA and go?

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe so. The VC12 quick-start manual says: -

48 Preset / 96 total accessible programs when using ToneLab

I have a Tonelab and VC-12. I have found no way to load the VC-12 memories into the Tonelab. There is nothing in the Tonelab manual that outlines this procedure and nothing in the VC-12 that shows it is possible. Given the series of steps that you have to take the amp and VC through to acccomplish this, I rather doubt that it is possible. Also, all the pedals, modulations, delays and reverbs on the Tonelab have 3 parameters that you can edit, not two or one and you can deep edit some parameters on the computer that go beyond even the controls on the Tonelab iteself. And the amps do not have the VR gain that plays a pretty critical role in the sound shaping of the Tonelab -- further reason to believe that the VC memories can't be uploaded to the Tonelab. And Voxman is correct, the VC12 Easy Start says you have access to 48 presets/98 total programs on the Tonelab with the pedal, but those are just the standard programs of the Tonelab (2 sets of 48 - one user changeable, the other fixed) and that doesn't (as I read it) indicate you can upload presets (for the reasons above).

I agree it would a great feature. And I agree that having the Tonelab as a back up for the amp is a great idea...exactly what I do with mine. What you'd need to do is set up your key amp model presets in the Tonelab in similar banks and then do the best you can to mimic the sound of amp -- it will take some time because you have the extra parameters and cabinet control in the Tonelab. My suggestion, particularly because it would be a back up system, is to pick 4 to 8 presets (I use 4) that are your main go-to sounds and dial those in. Set them in Bank 1 (and 2), numbers 1 thru 4, and you can get up and running quickly with the Tonelab, should there be an amp problem. Having a back up for gigs is a must. This is a good solution for that.

OK. Sorry this is a while after your post but hope it helps...

Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to know. To bad it won't download, it would be nice!

Thanks
Bob
