TLLE: PROG LVL vs. CH VOLUME?

Postby JFrankParnell » 08 Apr 2010, 00:14

So, yeah, what is the difference between these two parameters, PROG LVL and CH VOLUME and how would they be used?

thanks,
J

GAIN, VR GAIN, and CH VOLUME are the 3 programmable levels (VR = Valve Reactor & controls tube saturation)

In the SE manual:

ToneLabSE CH VOLUME: For want of a better way of putting it, this is like a
power attenuator that you would add between the output of your amp and the
input of your speaker cabinet. This controls the level of the final mix and allows
you to balance all your programmed amp sounds to each other.

Where are you finding the term 'Program Level'? I can't seem to find this anywhere?

from the TLLE manual, pg 25:
10. If you notice that the volume level of a speci?c program is different from that of other pro-grams and you wish to adjust the level, press the CAB button while holding down the AMP
button, then turn the PROG LVL knob (value knob 6). You can also apply this procedure if
some effect settings cause sound clipping.

14. ToneLab LE provides a PEDAL effect [...] turn value knobs 1, 2, and 3 to adjust DRIVE, LEVEL, and TONE respec-tively. You can edit other effects using the same procedure.
HINT: Some effect settings may cause unwanted distortion (if there is such a thing!!). If this happens,
lower the PROG LVL. (p.25)

It just seems redundant to the ch volume, and i was playing with it to see if there was anything else it did.

thanks for the comeback,
J

You didn'y say what TL you had before - I was looking at the SE manual. For the LE, I'm inclined to agree that the CH VOL & PROG LVL appear to be the same thing.

I'll try & find out if there is any difference.

I don't know how accurate this might be as I don't have a TLLE, but 'Peder' at Stompbox.net suggested the following:

My take on it is that the CH VOL is like an attenuator (i.e. power brake) before the amp signal hits the cab.
And the PROG LVL is the volume of the "miked up" signal.
I also think the PROG LVL affects the level of the effects whereas CH VOL only affects the signal from the amp
