Private Mail Messages - a humble request please!

Postby Voxman » 15 Feb 2009, 19:01

Running Valvetronix.net and moderating other boards is pretty time-consuming as I'm sure you all understand. While I always try to offer all the help I can, of late I seem to be receiving a lot of PM's (some quite long) from a number of folk, relating to themes that should really just be put on the boards. These have been time consuming for me to respond to and their content should never have been the subject of PM's. As an example, I'm often asked for advice on gear - that's EXACTLY the type of thing that should be asked openly as it gives you the opportunity to get help from others too.

There is a wealth of experienced & knowledgeable folk on the board here, and if you only PM me with your queries, you're missing out on their wisdom too - I honestly don't know the answer to everything (not by a long chalk! ) so posting on the forum really is so much better for you too.

Private Messages should be used sparingly & reserved for personal issues (eg buying/selling arrangements, exchange of personal info, off topic private discussions etc) or for a matter where it is clearly not appropriate to post on the forum (not that it's ever happened cos this is a nice forum with nice people, but for example if you wanted to complain privately to me about someone's rudeness or flaming on the forum etc).

Please therefore spare a thought for your poor Uncle Voxy & only PM me if its genuinely appropriate (eg if you wanted to clear something with me you weren't sure about before posting etc.).

If I receive 'routine' PM's that should go on the forum, please therefore don't consider it a 'slight' in any way or think me unhelpful if I refer you back to the main forum.

Rich
