p a for gigs

Postby bill rand » 22 Oct 2010, 08:34

Hi folks just a quick one on pa systems, heres the deal.We are just getting to stage where we need pa for the band we are putting together, two guitars and a vocalist, looking for bassist and drummer, at the mo singer going through my ad60 via a small mixer in the effects loop and into an extension cab from the amp. We are now looking at pa so........... do we need one for just the vocals and play through guitar amps etc or is it best to put guitars through the pa as well , there fore sort of using the amps as a kind of monitor at a reasonable level(so no deafness) and boosting sound levels forward to the audience, or would the vocals only option work ok for pub type gigs?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated cheers guys

Most definitely the latter Bill - with everything through the PA you can not only control the overall balance, volume & EQ way better, but most importantly the spread of sound to the audience, even at smaller gigs.

It's been my experience that running it all through will give you better out in front sound for the house, much better wash if you ask me. Small gigs though demand common sense, you can guitar away with using amps straight out without PA.
