My 2 cents on the bbe sonic stomp!!!!

Postby Metalhed » 20 Apr 2010, 10:09

Howdy all, i have been running an MXR 10 band eq and a bbe sonic stomp thru the fx loop of my 100vtxl for some time. Recently after reading other peoples views on the bbe i decided to take it out of the loop for a try.....wow.....it sounds heaps better in my opinion! I found i got that cool "tube feel" back that i seem to have lost from putting the bbe in the loop! And the sound isn't like an ice pick to the forhead anymore! All you need is a nice eq in the loop...just my 2 cents, rock on rock gods, chur.

The MXR is the best stomp EQ you can get IMHO - I wouldn't mind one myself.

I can only comment on the BBESS & EQ700 with my AD120VTX. The 'Blue' amps design is also a little different so it may respond differently to the 'chrome' series. Far from making the amp sound digital, it gives my AD120VTX a bigger '3d' feel with more punch, and makes the amp sound fuller & bigger. But I fully accept that we all hear & like different things.

My view might well change if I was able to get hold of a s/h MXR - its analogue tonal quality might be the difference that then negate the BBESS value. I'm looking out for one, so I'll let you know.

Me too Metalhead I wasn't overly fussy about the BBESS either. I don't run anything in my effects loop any more in my AD30 just a straight up tube vibe.

True! did you find that you lost the tube vibe with the bbe as well? Have you run a nice eq through the loop though? Does absolute wonders, it made me cum in my pants.....ahhhh rock n roll!

Just a thought guys - are you using the BBESS before or after the EQ in the FX loop? (i use it after)

Yeah, i was using it after the eq too, the way i saw it was the bbe "corrects" the frequencies so you would want to eq your sound first then run it through the bbe, another reason i got rid of the bbe was that Hetfield/Hammet, King/Hanneman, Morton/Alder from LOG and all the other metal gods dont run a sonic maximizer, just pure stonkin' amp tone, hell yeah!

They also aren't getting their tone with a modelling amp.
G&L SC-3, Ibanez RG550, Epi SG, Fender G-DEC 3 30, Vox AD60VTX w/ VC12, Carvin XV112, Line 6 JM4 Looper, Vox ToneLab, Cry Baby, Digitech RP1, BBESS, Danelectro 7-band EQ, EHX Hum Debugger, Janglebox and Bad Monkey.

No, I meant the "metal gods" referred to. They're using Randalls and other amps.
