With acknowledgement to Nik for the techy input & sfbayjay for the neat summary: -
"Line-out" jacks on chrome series:
(1) NO influence from tube in the amp -- all digital
(2) Triggers DSP to add "cabinet characteristics" to the signal
"Ext. Speaker" jack
(1) Tube circuit is active, tube tone included in output signal
(2) No digital "cabinet characteristics" (makes sense, as signal would presumably be sent to a cabinet -- duh!)
