Humbucker/Single coil tap mod

Postby retrobob » 18 Sep 2011, 19:00

We are currently testing a new guitar mod that will give guitars with humbucker pickups single coil tones, without modifying the guitar's pickup lead wires (vintage and some new guitars have only two wires and can not be tapped as they are).

The mod uses a single push/pull pot to activate it, replacing one of the tone controls and only changes the path of the pickup's wire to the volume control, plus it can be wired to work with multiple pickups.

So far it produces pretty convincing single coil tones, in some cases even better than a traditional tapped humbucker. Plus, the pickup retains its hum canceling characteristic, and the mod can be formatted into a stand alone pedal for those that do not want to alter their guitars.

We’ll be posting more about this as it develops.

Very Interesting Bob!! - especially the stand alone pedal idea! I've been meaning to get a 'Jimmy Page' conversion done to my Les Paul - but single coil tones with no hum....& even via pedal, sounds very cool! :D

A pedal form would be ideal, since I do have a guitar that I really would rather not modify. It would also be nice because there are a few HH jaguars I"ve been checking out simply because they seem easier to come by and just having that versatility would be nice.
