How does the Tonelab LE behave with Solid State amps?

Postby xxxneoxxx » 11 Nov 2009, 06:52

Hi!

Well there's the question for you. What would be the result of plugging a Tonelab LE into the direct input or the effects loop of a solid state amp with a good clean sound.

For example, I read some reviews of a Fender Stage 112, and it seemed pretty decent. What if I used an amp like that with the tonelab?

Thanks in advance.

It should sound pretty good! In fact, clean solidstate amps like the Roland JC120 are ideal for Tonelab because they colour its tone less & let the TL modelling shine through.

Yup.

Tonelab direct into the FX return should sound great!
Nik - bickering twat.
Tonelab and VC-4, direct to PA.

I run my ToneLab LE direct into a solid state PA, using the amp/cab models. I use a Bose L1 model II system, but I think a FRFR solution (e.g., keyboard amp, PA, powered PA cab, monitor or Tech 21 Power Engine, etc.) would be better than a guitar amp no matter how clean it is, you will get some tone coloring from a guitar amp, and you could use the full features of the TLLE. IMO of course, YMMV.

I run two solid state amps in stereo and the sound is AMAZING!! you just have to get a good solid state amp. I recommend the ZT Lunchbox's I use 2 of those or they have the ZT Club. which has the 12 inch speaker. don;t be fooled by there size.. they are a killer 200 watts a piece yes.. 200 watts.. and they have a great anaolgue input gain then a digital shaping EQ tonestack then a class a/b amp output, they are not brittle and have a great natural sound. but with the Tonelab they are something else..

Absolutely. You want the cleanest, most colorless amp you can get. Tube amps will always distort or at least color the sound - I'd say "by design" but it's more like "can't be avoided" in this case. If you are just playing the tube amp, you want that. But, with the Tonelab, it's the last thing you want.

Get a SS guitar amp with a very good clean channel, or run through a PA type amp. Most guitar amps with a "gain" channel only are not good choices as it is hard to get really clean through many of them.
