feed back?

Postby bill rand » 19 Sep 2010, 20:15

Hi all, i have an ad60vt with eq in the loop , now i have not really gone past the plexi model on the dial until now . when i try and use any of the models on the right i get one hell of a noise /feed back of some sort even at quite low volumes, some of which is from the strings resonating, as i dampen them the feed back just resumes at a different pitch im assuming this is because the pick ups are pulling on the strings? ive tried lowering them to no avail. It also seems to come from the pick ups themselves they seem to vibrate and i can press onto them to cancel one freq .For example if i load the gary moore pre-set the squeals etc are as loud as the guitar signal, even as i say at low volumes. i hope this makes sense lol.Any way this happens on all the guitars i own so i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to the problem? I play at home in a fairly small room and thought this may be the problem but even when i leave the room with a long lead it still occurs so any thoughts be much appreciated folks

Ok narrowed it down a bit, if i select a hi gain setting again the Gary Moore a good example and tap the pick ups it sets off a high pitched feed back type sound with the strings muted, i can then press on the pick up and sound goes so seems to me the actual pick ups are vibrating? any suggestions

Bill,
Your pickups are showing the classic sings of "MICROPHONICS" and this can be especially pronounced if you have metal covers over your pickups that have become loose, also semi hollow body guitars can add to this phenomena.

Here is a link that may help you understand what is happening and how to fix it.

You can repot your own p/ups but you need to be careful especially with the wax temperature. There are specialist firms who can repot your p/ups for you. I sent my Gibson Les Paul p/ups to 'Pickup Wizard' in the UK & it cost only £24 inc postage both ways - at that low cost I was quite happy for a professional to do it & I got them back within only a few days, perfectly repotted & they now perform as new.
