Hello everyone! I'm brand new here on the forum and this is my first time posting. I've been lurking for a while now though. I have recently gotten back into playing guitar after a very long hiatus. After spending an afternoon visiting my younger brother at his home, I had the opportunity to try out several amplifiers that he owns, of varying brands. I was floored at how good his AD120VTH and 2-12" cabinet sounded. I decided that I wanted a Vox amp like his, but have found it difficult to catch one on ebay in the wattage I want. I finally found a combo that was being sold as "not working/for parts". I got it for less than half price of the ones that were being sold in working condition.
I'm not an electronics guy, or have much more than a basic understanding of how amps work, but after reading through the troubleshooting faq section on this site, I felt that I'd have a good chance of getting the amp working again. It is in very good shape externally, and when I powered it up. it sounded like a clock was ticking. I took the amp apart a couple of times, cleaning everything, and did make one mistake in that I sprayed the contact cleaner on the circuit board. The cleaner was definitely not compatible with those buttons!!. Finally, after not finding any dry or cracked solder joints, signs of overheating, damage, fuses, etc., I remembered the tubes. I wish I'd checked that first! The amp is now working great!!
