Different voltage pedals conundrum

Postby Voxman » 23 Apr 2010, 00:59

At the moment I have three 9v pedals in a mini-pedal board I use in the FX loop of my AD120VTX - a boost pedal, EQ, & BBE Sonic Stomp. All of these are 9v and connected via a daisy chain to the same power supply.

I'm thinking of buying an MXR M108 EQ to replace the EQ700 but have found out this is an 18v pedal. It comes with its own 18v power supply. Do I have to power this separately with its own power supply & use the other power supply for the 9V pedals (2 power-supplies is a nuisance - more to carry/set-up) or is there a way I can still daisy chain 3 pedals using just the MXR power supply only without blowing my other pedals with too much voltage?

Rich :?

Rich,

Which power supply are you using to power your pedal now? Some power supplies can be reconfigured to supply different voltages, if they have the ma available to power everything.

Other choices are to use a DC Brick (Dunlop), or similar that can supply different voltages to power everything, otherwise you will need the two separate power supplies.

I think my friend has a voodoo labs pedal power 2 (I think..) which has 9V, 18V and also 9V output that you can decrease the voltage on to simulate a used 9V battery (I guess some pedals sound great like that)
One thing to note is that some pedals such as the Whammy require a higher current rating on the output (I think it was 18V) that the brick can output so the stock wallwart was used.
