Difference between Tonelab LE and ADVT series

Postby chill901 » 08 Apr 2008, 18:48

Hi there, I am thinking of going down the MFX road so I can get good sounds at bedroom levels, but I was wondering how similar the amp models on the Tonelab were to the Chrome Valvetronix series? I had an AD50VT and wasnt too fussed on it, it was muddy and I didnt like any of the amp models past the UK70s (found them all to sound "flabby" and unresponsive) so I was wondering whether it was exactly the same modelling in the Tonelab LE or whether a Tonelab LE would sound better than a valvetronix did (I'm using a Laney LC15r now but if that didnt sound good with it I would get a keyboard amp or something FRFR)

Is the Tonelabs amp modelling of a higher quality that the ADVT series or will the amp models sound exactly the same?

Thanks

Tonelab is equivalent to Blue series AD60/120 amp models, not chrome series.

How good the TL sounds depends on what you play it through.

Yes.
The valve reactor circuit, that does the all important power amp simulation, it's rather more complex and sophisticated in the Blues and the Tonelabs than in the chromes.

oh good - I ask because none of my local shops stock it so I would have to buy blind off the internet. The clips sound good as do the reviews, so it might be worth a risk

I have an AD15, a 60VTH, and a Tonelab. The blue amps are definetly a step up. Yet the blues still require an EQ in the loop to rid the flubby sound, especially on high gain models.

I recently purchased a tonelab (desktop model). I can dial in just about whatever tone I need without an eq. It has turned out so well in fact, that I bought a Roland KC 150 to amplify it. Its so good, that I am using it for small live gigs, band practice, and at home/headphone use.

I can pretty much set all my patches with headphones (Sennheiser) and the patches work great for my live and practice applications. If I need more, well, theres always the 60VTH and cab which is more than sufficient. 8)

I said all that to say this; The Tonelab is an excellent tone machine for home use.... and You always have options to do more with it if the need ever arises. And 1 more thing, I do believe that the LE has improved high gain options

IF you liked the VR in your AD50, then you will love the Tonelab!!..... IMHO :)
