so, am I right in thinking that if you set up two 8 Ohm speakers in parallel, you can run them with a 4 Ohm amplifier without losing any power? (My vt-30 is such an amp... 4 Ohms) and it sounds really good when I set it on top of a stack of two 1x12 cabs... using the ext. spkr out that's in the loop mod I got here. No cutting necessary, it seems to run those cabs and is a lot louder (and cleaner when I set it that way) than I expected. This amp will definitely run a 4x12 cab if you match the impedance carefully. If you don't... what? Will it be disappointing if you run an 8 Ohm cab from a 4 Ohm amp?

Finally completed the project! Turned out pretty well. Sorry for the blurry pic, but it's late. Top unit is a power and light strip, then the Sabine rack tuner, then the Vox VT30, turned over so the controls face out. The only hang-up was the "attenuator" control is between the bottom of the tuner and the "top" of the amp... easily reached with a finger and turned, but the footswitch jack and power had to be bodged since the plugs wouldn't fit in that little open area. A right angle 1/4" TRS adapter for the footswitch and splicing a short AC cable into the chassis fixed that.

Got the 8 space rack case from Hybrid Cases on eBay for $80 delivered. Rack vent panel (4 space) came from local sound shop for $15. Made the rack ears for the Vox out of metal end panels from two project boxes. Later I will cut out a place on the side for the recessed jack panel (footswitch and speaker jacks..) but for now they are temped in the rear so I can get some sleep before work tomorrow and have a gig Friday - Thursday will be my rest day. Later!

I slight revision to the project - I made a filler plate out of some 3/16" Plexi-Glass, as the metal 4-rack space vent panel was a bit too tall and was overlapping the bottom of the VT30's panel. (Anyone need a like-new Gator 4-space vent panel???) Anyway, I moved all the connections to the new front filler panel - AC power (used a PowerCon connector) and jacks for the speaker output and the VFS5 footswitch. Now the rear lid never need come off the rack and everything is up-front where I can keep an eye on it. These are such cool little amps - I have been trying out other stuff (Fender Mustang IV head, which is nice, a little VHT amp, my Fender Princeton Chorus, a Fender Stage 100 head) and for me just gigging around the middle part of the state. the Vox Box (as I will now call this thing) just can't be beat for versatility and utility.
