Most guitars buzz a little when you are not in contact with them, your body acts as shielding and helps quiet noise interference. There are several ways to minimize noise in a guitar, just to mention a few;
1). Additional shielding inside the electronics cavity
2). Adding shielding at the pickups themselves (if they're not covered)

Buzzing louder when you touch the coil tap switches, that is usually caused by the switch housing's not being grounded or an internally damaged switch. The chance of two switches being damaged the same is slim, check the switches and add a ground by soldering a wire to the side of their metal housing and attaching it to a ground source. Grounding the switches may quiet the buzzing some as well.

Are you referring to an outdoor arena with power from an ungrounded generator in a rainstorm by the time said guitarist touches the mike with his right hand right after that powerful intro chord? Not a nice picture :shock: :lol:
