Add a little bling to your VOX

Postby LeftyF » 26 May 2011, 23:19

I had a troll around Ebay to see if I could find some white chicken head knobs on the cheap. Found these from a very nice dealer in China. even with the shipping I ended up with 8 knobs for my AD50 for around $10.00. I may go back and get a set for my AD120.

I have seen some recovering jobs; I just don't remember if was this forum or not. Seems that someone recovered their amp in a creme or beige tolex and it looked remarkably good. I may try changing the plastic corners for brass and also add casters to the 120VT I own. The white chicken heads look pretty cool, too.

I know a fellow that makes custom cabinets that also will re-cover an amp, but for what it costs it's not really worth it on these amps. To do it yourself is not for the faint of heart. Knobs are much easier to swap out

Careful with those knobs. Those have set screws and are made for smooth pot shafts. You really need push-on type or you risk busting the shaft.

Good point. I was careful not to crank the set screws down too hard.

If you slide some type of shim in the shaft slot, that should be enough to stop it from being crushed.

I´ve been thinking on adding bling bling to my AD50VT... not just the grill... I would like a classic look... tolex, tweed...something nice and distinctive, more personal touch, but haven´t decided yet mmm...
