AD50VT convert

Postby stax » 26 Nov 2011, 16:21

Noticed a mint AD50 on the bay last week, put a small bid in and won it,I did have an Ad15 years ago and joined this forum but sold it on.
I got my gigging amps out today as I'm playing tonight and tried the Vox against a Fender Pro Reverb and a couple of 18 watt tube amps one with EL84's one with 6V6's.
Bypassed the FX and compared the straight tones and at gigging vol the Vox more than holds its own, what a great little amp.
I use a Delay on slap back and Zen drive on lower gain with the Fender and when I put this through the bypassed presets (Fender and Vox) the sounds were really good.
I really only got this as a spare and also to leave at our place of rehearsal but this thing has made me think twice about taking the others out.

Stax, I'm wondering if your amp is made in Korea or Vietnam. I recently purchased an AD50VT that doesn't sound very good, and I'm trying to figure out what the issue might be.

I can't see place of manufacture on it and I didn't get a manual so can't help.
I'm able to play mine loud which helps so no tone sucking on the attenuator or whatever they call it and it helps if the master is fairly well up also the mids and go easy on the fx.
I'm also quite happy to dial in and stick to one good sound then save with a little verb and slapback rather than go from metal to clean etc.
I've also tried since my first post different speakers and I'm quite happy with what it came with, I do have the 70/80 in a 6v6 1x12 combo and there is nothing wrong with them imo.
I would agree there is something lacking when comparing it to the real thing, in my case a Fender Pro Reverb but maybe more about the feel if that makes sense as I can get pretty close to the sound.
Bottom line for me is I paid about the same price for it as a couple of decent power tubes for the Fender so for long rehearsals etc and the very slight trade off it makes perfect sense.
