AD30VT-XL Speaker Options...Comments?

Postby soundchaser59 » 26 Feb 2011, 02:39

I'm getting a mint used AD30VT-XL with the 12 inch speaker, all stock. I never keep the stock speakers in these amps, so I have several options. All of my cabs are Webers, and I may mount a jack on this amp and put a 16 ohm speaker in it so I can play it with internal and external speaker together. I have a lot of Webers and know them well, so I'm open to a little experiment with this amps speaker replacement.

The options I am most strongly drawn to are these:

Celestion
Hellatone
G12H
G12T-75
G12K-100
G12M "Greenback"

Eminence
Swamp Thang
Tonker
Texas Heat
Cannabis Rex
Private Jack

I briefly considered looking for an EV Force 12, but it's not a priority.

Or I have a Weber 12V or Silver Bell available to me also. Other Webers are options as well.

I have to admit I'm not a Celestion fan, but I do think these Vox amps sound good with Celestions. I would prefer something with a warmer, less bright sound, heavier magnet and larger vc kind of thing. I think the amp will have plenty of bright and edge available for what I need, which is sustain cleans, blues, blues rock, lite jazz, lite fusion, and clean dirt lead kind of stuff, so a dark sounding speaker is probably ok.

Pretty wide open here, so any comments or thoughts are welcome. Maybe pick a favorite from each brand? I'm listening, and Thanks!

Due to unexpected circumstances, this choice has suddenly narrowed down to a few Webers....

Blue Dog hemp cone
Texas
Michigan

But man I'd love to get one of those hemp cone Silver Bells!

Turns out Michigan was the best choice.
