50´s Rock&Roll sound

Postby Napo » 01 Oct 2011, 03:42

Hi there!!

Im from Argentina, Im new in the forum.

Well...Im starting a band, 50´s, 60´s style R&R, Rocabilly...Elvis, Little Richard, Cash, Burnette, Jerry Lee Lewis... I have a japanese Fender Strat with Ds Pickups ( it´s a texan strat sound, much like SRV or a Dimarzio Blue Velvet for example, alnico V pu´s )

Here´s the thing: I have a Ad50VT, and I need an almost clean sound. I´ve been going thru the amps and I think I´ll use the Tweed 4x10... gain 12 o clock... volume 1 o clock, treble 3 o clock, bass and mids on 9 o clock, a little reverb... what do you think? its a live band... there´s also another guitar, sax, piano... I need something for rythms and a few solos ( I´m thinking on adding a little more gain, and roll back the guitar volumen for rythmics, full guitar volume for solos ).

I´ve also read about close backs and open amp back, and I think im going with the 1/3 open back.

What do you think? Am I on the right track?

The Fender Bassman was one of 'the' amps of the day, so it's great for the type of music listed with a clean tone that has a very nice 'break-up' as you crank it. Using guitar volume roll off is a very good approach and is exactly what players of the day did. It's a very effective technique which I still use to this day.

Yes, I tried rolling back the guitar´s volumen but my strat has no treble bleed, it gets darky, anyway, I tried it at " house" volume, maybe at stage volume It´ll work.
