100vtxl speakers? celestion vs vox?

Postby Metalhed » 04 Feb 2010, 09:58

I see my 100vtxl has 16 ohm "80" watt speakers, all the metal gods seem to use celestion vintage 30's, can anyone tell me if "60" watt v30's would be any good? What would happen buy using the lesser wattage speakers, that being 60 watts versus the 80 watters that are already in it???

Two 60 watt speakers together will handle a 120 watt load, you're safe.

In addition, Celestions are very robust speakers and their power handling rating are well known to be conservative. I have a MkI 80w Marshall 8080 Valvestate 1x12" combo - the speaker is the excellent 75w Celestion G12T75 that easily copes with the amp at full stretch, even with an EQ boosting the volume!
